something I've been noticing...

I know I haven't updated this blog yet about my Easter Holiday trip and I promise that is coming soon. But I just wanted to comment on something I've noticed recently. Be forewarned, it's a really random thought.

Whether it's online, in the catalogs I now receive because I ordered something from a shop online, or even on adverts in the stores: clothing companies (even ones based here in the UK, not just ones that have headquarters back in the states) seem to do their photo shoots for spring and summer fashions mostly back in California...or at least this year that's the place for it.

I know, you're thinking: "ok, so...that's a really random thought" and you're right, in fact, I did warn you. I suppose the thoughts behind it go something like this, upon seeing one of the adverts:

"Wow, that dress [or those shorts, or those sandals, or that top...fill in the blank with an article of clothing] looks great for when I get back to California!"

pause for thought

"But would someone actually be able to wear that outfit here? I mean, without adding tights, leggings, or a cardigan?"

Of course, in this instance, I mean someone who actually dresses appropriately for the weather, not just the girls who,for the sake of fashion, seriously look like they're freezing...

And then I notice the background of the photo. The way the cars are parked, the street signs, something simple, something small, but something familiar. And I realize: "hey, wait a second! That's LA [or somewhere else that has already had temperatures over 26 degrees(that's Celsius, so that means around 80F) in 2012]! No wonder the model doesn't look like she's freezing!"

I suppose I don't really have a point to this blog, but it's been on my mind. Mostly because it's been sunnier here in Aberdeen and I've been enjoying not necessarily needing to wear a jumper or cardigan everyday, but I still can't fathom wearing some of my normal summer apparel. At least not yet. But who knows, maybe there's something wrong with the fashion world and they believe that summer-time apparel that can be worn in LA will be just as wearable in Aberdeen...or, more likely maybe I'm just a wimpy California girl who hasn't truly acclimated to Aberdonian temperatures. Oh well. I suppose I should get back to working on school work instead of writing blogs on silly topics, but there you have it.

  1. I get this completely. But it seems like the girls here do still wear those fashions. I mean, Penny's (Primark) is all summer dresses and sandals at the moment, in the pouring rain...this makes perfect sense.
