Sound of Music Sing-a-long!

So this weekend I went to a Sing-Along showing of The Sound of Music at a local indie cinema. I have always wanted to attend the one they do at the Hollywood Bowl, but it's no longer feasible being a good 1,000 miles away. But this was FANTASTIC! Upon giving my ticket to the man at the ticket booth I was handed a small bag of goodies for interacting with the film. It contained two different cards (about the size of playing cards) that had images or words on both sides (to be used strategically during "How do You Solve a Problem like Maria?", a small sprig of white, plastic flowers (edelweiss), an invitation to the ball hosted by Captain Von Trapp, and small swatch of curtain fabric. Although I did not dress up for the occasion, there were many who were be-costumed. One group of ladies, who won the costume contest, showed up as the Alps! They had turned some old cardboard into snow-capped mountains and during the contest, they provided a great backdrop for all of the Marias, Nuns, Does-a-deer, girls in white dresses with blue satin sashes, etc.

Not only was it fun to sing along to a fantastic musical, but we were all encouraged to interact with the film: calling aloud for Maria during the opening fly-over of Austria, honking our noses when the nuns compare Maria to a clown, flapping our swatches of curtains at her while telling her that the solution to her play clothes problem is "right behind you!", boo-ing the Nazis and hissing at Baroness Schraeder, etc. It was an energetic and fun evening for all!
