closing doors and waiting rooms

So the other news that I mentioned at the end my last update about life had to do with what sounded like a dream job. And while it may indeed have been a dream job, it wasn't for me. Or at least that's what I've learned this last week.

Back at the beginning of the month I heard about a job with The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. They were looking to hire an administrative assistant for the Director of the Margaret Herrick Library, a library which contains the history of film. I was already hoping that the job came with mandatory attendance of the Oscars, and thinking about what the heck I'd wear, or whether or not a job like that meant I'd be behind the scenes, if present at all. But when a job with the Academy comes up, it's hard not to start dreaming a little. But while I was dreaming I was keeping the job opportunity under my hat, more or less, I'm not sure why entirely. It was probably a mixture of not wanting to have to inform a bunch of people later on that I hadn't gotten it and not wanting it to get around to my current employers that I'm still applying other places...

As I hinted at above, I found out last week that I did not get it. While this news was a bit disappointing, I'm learning how to look for the window or other door that's opening elsewhere. I'm remembering that while I may not get to work with the Academy, God knows that for the moment I'm supposed to stay where I am, both work-relatedly as well as location related. It also has reminded me that I have other things to do with my time, such as continuing to work on finally turning my murder mystery parties into a proper business and get a website up and running towards those ends. So here's to closing doors and opening windows, or rather, reminders that windows have been open, and to the transitional spaces and the work that happens in them.

until next time.
