Californian, through and through...

Just an observation I've made: I noticed it early on, but didn't really think anything of it until recently.

When I'm asked where I'm from (whether by a random stranger who's heard my accent - although that's less common - or by someone I'm meeting for the first time) I never answer "from the states" or "from the U.S." or "from America". Instead I always answer: "California". I really noticed the difference when I've been in a group of people and someone else from "the states" or "america" answers as such. Saying the U.S. or any of those other terms just isn't the first thing that comes to mind. The first thing to mind and to my lips is always "California".
